Peaceful Retreat in Uttaranchal

Uttarakhand, the abode of gods, formerly Uttaranchal is located in the Northern part of India. The state was carved out of the Himalayan and adjoining north-western districts of Uttar Pradesh on 9 November 2000, becoming the 27th state of the Republic of India. There are many tourist destinations in Uttarakhand, largely because of its scenic and religious significance. Uttaranchal boasts of the snow capped mountains, Rolling Meadows, high altitude lakes, dense forests and wetland habitat supports diverse and exotic wildlife in Gharwal and Kumaon region.

Popular Destinations of Uttaranchal are

Mussoorie: The queen of the hills is one of the most popular and fascinating hill resorts of northern India. Its green hills and varied fauna and flora make it a colorful and picturesque hill station, commanding a wonderful view of extensive Himalayan snow ranges to the North-East, and panoramic view of the Doon valley to the south.

Haridwar: Is a holy city, known as the Gateway to the Gods, Haridwar is considered one of the 7 holiest places according to Hindus. Here pilgrims float diyas on the Ganges, to commemorate their deceased ancestors. In Haridwar you will see a great statue of Shiva at the fork of the river.

Chamba: Is an unexplored, untouched, serene destination located at an altitude of 1676 m, in the Tehri district. An unspoilt territory and covered with lots of pine and deodar trees, Chamba offers a never explored interlude. Unlike Mussoorie, the place is very quiet, serene and offers picturesque beauty and is an excellent place to relax and fun and drive away the city blues.

Nainital: This hill station situated in the picturesque Kumaon region is situated around the lake Naini. Seven mountains surround the city. Apart from its scenic beauty, Nainital is famous for its scented candles. The hill station offers a wonderful holiday retreat from the hectic routine of the cities.

Ranikhet: Ranikhet (The Queen's Field) has come to be known so; according to popular belief, this spot had won the heart of Rani Padmini and she chose this scenic spot to be her abode. To view nature & its elements in full harmony, the right place to be is Ranikhet. It is the place which wonderfully mirrors the best of the heavenly Himalayas offering excellent views of the snowcapped Nanda Devi (7817m), lush green forests, delicate plant life and attractive wild life.

Jim Corbett National Park: Is the place for observing tigers in chilling proximity. Corbett National Park is the first national park in India established in 1936 in Uttaranchal. It is one of the many wildlife reserves under Project Tiger. Home to a variety of flora and fauna, the park is famous for its wild population of Tigers, Leopards and Elephants.

Dehradun: Nestled in the mountain ranges of the Himalaya, Dehradun is one of the oldest cities of India and currently capital of new born state Uttaranchal. Also known as the "Abode of Drona", Dehradun has always been an important center of the Gharwal rules which was captured by the British.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant in Dehradun.

By Rail: Rail network is also quite very convenient in Uttarakhand. The key Railway Stations in the state are Dehradun, Haridwar and Kathgodam.

By Road: Uttarakhand has a wide-ranging road network covering the state. The state has an exceptional road connection with Delhi and many State Highways with regular bus services.
